Nude Food Day is a great initiative to encourage healthy eating without all the unnecessary packaging that often comes with lunchbox or school lunches. It enables kids (and parents) to learn more about the environment and demonstrates how they can have a direct effect on the amount of rubbish that is produced daily.
Celebrated during the month of October, Nude Food Day has been in operation since 2010 and is all about promoting a healthy body and a healthy planet. It is as simple as that!
Parents, schools, kids – anyone and everyone can get involved. Nude Food Day can be incorporated into workplaces as well – the more, the merrier, in fact.
But don’t feel you have to stick to just one day or even one week – Nude Food Day can occur every day of the year if you put your mind to it.
So how can you get involved in Nude Food Day?
On the nominated day/week/month, pack your lunches with no wrapping – healthy home-cooked food can be stored in containers rather than covered in wasteful plastic or aluminum foil.
If you are not sure what to pack for lunch, here are some great lunch ideas offered by Nude Food themselves.
And here are a few of our favorite lunch time menu suggestions.
Tortellini Pesto Salad
- Pesto Sauce
Cook the pasta. Add peas in the saucepan during the last few minutes. Drain and stir in pesto. Allow to cool and pop into the lunchbox for a delicious and healthy meal.
Turkey Tortilla Pinwheels
- Wholegrain tortilla
- Turkey slices
- Dijon mustard
Lay the tortilla out flat. Spread turkey slices, lettuce and mustard onto the tortilla and roll up. Cut into small individual pinwheel slices.
Ham and Salad Pita
- Pita Bread
- Grated zucchini
- Grated carrot
- Vinaigrette dressing
Cut pita bread in half. Toss vegetables in dressing. Place salad and ham into the pita bread.
